Celebrate Diwali with Authentic Gulab Jamun
Nothing says Diwali like soft, melt-in-your-mouth gulab jamuns soaked in aromatic cardamom syrup. This traditional Indian sweet is a must-have for your festive celebrations!
Ingredients
For the Gulab Jamun:
- 1 cup milk powder
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 4-5 tbsp milk
- Oil or ghee for deep frying
For the Sugar Syrup:
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 8-10 Phoran Premium Green Cardamom pods, crushed
- Few strands of saffron (optional)
- 1 tsp rose water
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Sugar Syrup
In a wide pan, combine sugar and water. Add crushed Phoran Green Cardamom and bring to a boil. Simmer for 8-10 minutes until slightly sticky. Add rose water and keep warm.
Step 2: Make the Dough
Mix milk powder, flour, and baking soda. Add ghee and mix well. Gradually add milk to form a soft, smooth dough. Don't knead too much.
Step 3: Shape and Fry
Divide dough into 15-18 small balls. Roll them smooth with no cracks. Heat oil on medium-low heat. Fry the balls until golden brown, stirring gently for even color.
Step 4: Soak in Syrup
Transfer hot gulab jamuns directly into warm sugar syrup. Let them soak for at least 2 hours. They will double in size and absorb the aromatic cardamom flavor.
Chef's Tips
- Use Phoran Premium Green Cardamom for the most authentic, aromatic flavor
- Keep oil temperature medium-low to ensure gulab jamuns cook through without burning
- Make sure there are no cracks in the balls before frying
