Celebrate Diwali with Authentic Gulab Jamun

Nothing says Diwali like soft, melt-in-your-mouth gulab jamuns soaked in aromatic cardamom syrup. This traditional Indian sweet is a must-have for your festive celebrations!

Ingredients

For the Gulab Jamun:

  • 1 cup milk powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 4-5 tbsp milk
  • Oil or ghee for deep frying

For the Sugar Syrup:

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Sugar Syrup

In a wide pan, combine sugar and water. Add crushed Phoran Green Cardamom and bring to a boil. Simmer for 8-10 minutes until slightly sticky. Add rose water and keep warm.

Step 2: Make the Dough

Mix milk powder, flour, and baking soda. Add ghee and mix well. Gradually add milk to form a soft, smooth dough. Don't knead too much.

Step 3: Shape and Fry

Divide dough into 15-18 small balls. Roll them smooth with no cracks. Heat oil on medium-low heat. Fry the balls until golden brown, stirring gently for even color.

Step 4: Soak in Syrup

Transfer hot gulab jamuns directly into warm sugar syrup. Let them soak for at least 2 hours. They will double in size and absorb the aromatic cardamom flavor.

Chef's Tips

  • Use Phoran Premium Green Cardamom for the most authentic, aromatic flavor
  • Keep oil temperature medium-low to ensure gulab jamuns cook through without burning
  • Make sure there are no cracks in the balls before frying
  • Serve warm or at room temperature, garnished with pistachios
