Classic Indian Comfort Food: Dal Tadka
Dal tadka is the dish every Indian grows up with — creamy yellow lentils finished with a sizzling tempering of cumin, garlic, and ghee. Simple, nourishing, and deeply satisfying. With Phoran Premium Jeera and pure whole spices, you can make it restaurant-style at home.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup toor dal (split pigeon peas), washed
- 1 tsp Phoran Turmeric Powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1 tsp Phoran Premium Jeera (Cumin Seeds)
- 3–4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 dry red chili
- 1/2 tsp Phoran Garam Masala
- Fresh coriander for garnish
Method:
- Pressure cook toor dal with turmeric and salt until soft and creamy.
- Heat ghee in a small pan. Add jeera and let it splutter.
- Add garlic and dry red chili. Sauté until golden and fragrant.
- Add garam masala, stir for 10 seconds.
- Pour the sizzling tadka over the cooked dal.
- Garnish with fresh coriander. Serve hot with rice or roti.
Pro Tips:
- The tadka should be poured immediately while sizzling — that's where the magic happens
- Add a squeeze of lemon just before serving for brightness
- Use pure ghee for the most authentic flavor
