Crunchy Namak Pare for Diwali Snacking
Namak pare are crispy, savory crackers that are a Diwali staple. Flavored with ajwain and black pepper, these addictive snacks are perfect for tea time and gifting!
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
- 1/4 cup semolina (sooji)
- 1/4 cup ghee or oil
- 1 tsp Phoran Premium Ajwain
- 1 tsp Phoran Premium Black Pepper, coarsely crushed
- 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- Water as needed
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Dough
In a large bowl, mix flour, semolina, salt, Phoran Ajwain, crushed Phoran Black Pepper, and baking soda. Add ghee and rub it into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
Step 2: Knead
Add water gradually and knead into a stiff dough. Cover and rest for 15 minutes.
Step 3: Roll and Cut
Divide dough into portions. Roll each portion into a thin sheet (about 2-3mm thick). Cut into diamond or rectangular shapes using a knife or pizza cutter. Prick each piece with a fork.
Step 4: Fry
Heat oil on medium flame. Fry namak pare in batches until golden and crispy. Don't overcrowd the pan. Drain on paper towels.
Step 5: Cool and Store
Let them cool completely before storing in an airtight container. They stay fresh for 3-4 weeks!
