Sunday Family Masala — One Blend for the Whole Family
Sunday Family Masala is Phoran's answer to the question every home cook faces: what one masala can I reach for when cooking for a mixed group — kids, elders, spice-sensitive family members — without compromising on flavour? Mild, aromatic, and beautifully balanced, it works across every everyday dish without dominating or overheating.
What Can You Cook with Sunday Family Masala?
Everyday curry and gravy: The go-to for any onion-tomato based curry — add 1.5 tsp per serving after the base cooks down
Dal tadka: Stir ½ tsp into dal while cooking for a rounded, aromatic finish
Paneer dishes: Works in palak paneer, matar paneer, and paneer bhurji
Egg curry: Quick weeknight dish — add to the onion-tomato base before adding boiled eggs
Sabzi (dry vegetables): Sprinkle over potatoes, cauliflower, or mixed vegetables mid-cook
Pulao: Add ½ tsp to the ghee tempering before adding rice for a lightly spiced one-pot meal
Soup and lentils: A pinch in any simple soup or lentil preparation for warmth and depth
How Is Sunday Family Masala Different from Garam Masala?
Garam masala is a finishing spice — intense, aromatic, used in small quantities at the end of cooking. Sunday Family Masala is a cooking spice — milder, more rounded, used mid-cook in larger quantities as the primary spice for a dish. They complement each other: use Sunday Family Masala to build the dish, a pinch of garam masala to finish it.
Why ‘Sunday’?
Because Sunday cooking is when families gather, meals take a little longer, and the food needs to please everyone at the table — from the youngest to the oldest. This blend is designed for exactly that: dependable, crowd-pleasing, never too spicy, always aromatic.
